New Children’s Soft Play Area to open at Ashland Town Center

Jr.Doctor Playzone ribbon cutting November 15 at 3:30pm.

ASHLAND, Kentucky (November 16, 2006) – On Wednesday, November 15, 2006, the Ashland Town Center and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital invite families and children to join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 pm for the opening of the new Jr. Doctor Playzone.  Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital will provide a free coloring book to the first 100 children to enter the new Jr. Doctor Playzone.  Pretzel Time, a new food court merchant, will also offer a coupon to the first 100 children for a free plain or original pretzel.

Greeting visitors to the play area is Doctor Toby Turtle, a well-trained hospital physician and mascot with excellent bed-sized manners.  Toby welcomes Junior Doctors to the Playzone and points out the rules and regulations of the play area.  The central feature of the play area is the doctor’s home base, the hospital.  “We made an effort to showcase the hospital as an exciting and vibrant place associated with healthy living, healing and enjoyable work – overcoming the idea some children may have that the hospital is a scary place”, said Merri Hurn, General Manager.  It consists of a slide and tunnel for interactive play and is faux painted to resemble the outside of the actual Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Junior doctors can sit in the driver’s seat of the OLBH Mobile Health Center, take a ride down the Band-Aid slide, jump on the beating heart stethoscope, join a friend on the tongue-depressor see-saw or slide and play on the ambulance slide.

In addition to the play elements, smaller interactive play stations are located along the interior walls featuring various educational tasks.  The play area was also designed with adults in mind, and includes storage cubbies and soft surround seating.

For more information on the new play area, contact the Mall Office at 606.325.9570.
